Kalevala and Iron Danger
The Kalevala is a 19th-century work of epic poetry compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Karelian and Finnish oral folklore and mythology. It is regarded as the national epic of Karelia and Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish literature. Kalevala played an instrumental role in the development of the Finnish national identity, the intensification of Finland’s lanquage strife and the growing sense of nationality that ultimately led to Finland’s independence from Russia in 1917.
The first version of The Kalevala (called The new Kalevala) was published in 1835. The version most commonly known today was first published in 1849 and consists of 22,795 verses, divided into fifty songs. The title can be interpreted as “The land of Kaleva” or “Kalevia”.
So the movie will be based on an adaption of this story from Finnish folklore. Iron Danger will celebrate Finland’s 100th anniversary in 2017, and bring to life the story of Kalevala, an ancient epic tale that has shaped Finland’s identity.
My first time, Iron Danger at Ateneum
Iron Danger introduced their movie project at Ateneum in Helsinki. At Ateneum they released their new promo trailer and opened some backgrounds of the movie. Making of this promo trailer goes so far as 2012 and the shootings were made in 2013. So it has been a long journey before this Ateneum event, and this was my first time to be a part of this great movie project. But we are still at the very begining of long, hard and exciting journey to premier of this great upcoming movie.
Last but not least, I want to thank you my sponsors in this Making Of Iron Danger movie project. Without their help this would be way too challenging. Olympus Finland offers me they brilliant camera equipments such as OM-D EM-1, which is perfect camera for making of this document. SOLO Creative created this cool blog theme for me and Sigmatic offers me they servers for the blog and images. From Multitronic I have my Apple laptop, that I can make my pics when I’m at shooting locations. So BIG thanks to all these guys for helping me
From now on I will update this blog with new pics and stories behind the images always when something is going on production.
